Pistol Permit Application Process

Everything you need to apply for your CT pistol permit after class — including direct links to every town's application packet.

The process

How to Apply for a CT Pistol Permit

1

Complete a state-approved pistol safety class and get your certificate of completion. The certificate is only valid for 2 years, so start the application process soon after class.

2

Get the application from your town. Pick one up at your town hall or police station — many towns have it available online (links below). You must apply in your town of residency.

3

Follow the instructions on the application, including all required documents and fees.

4

Submit and get fingerprinted. Most towns have set hours for submitting applications and scheduling fingerprinting — details are usually in the application packet.

5

Get your state permit. Once approved by your local police department, take your 60-day temporary permit to the State Police SLFU to receive your CT state permit.
